Behind the Shell Art
The process behind the arrangements

Most of my shell art is created during a single visit to the beach. Sometimes I arrive with an idea, but often I let the shells inspire me. A curve might look like a wing, a spiral might become a tail, and little by little, an image begins to take shape.
I sort what I’ve found by color on my beach towel, smooth out a patch of sand, and sketch a loose outline with a hair pick. From there, I arrange the shells piece by piece, moving them around and trying different combinations until everything feels right.

Once the arrangement is finished, I photograph it and then carefully take it apart so no one accidentally steps on it. I may keep a few shells, but most are returned to the ocean. The arrangement itself is temporary, but the photograph allows the art to keep going—and eventually become one of my greeting cards.

I’m always finding new inspiration along the shore, and I can’t wait to see what takes shape next. Thanks for following along! I hope you find something here that makes you smile—or brings a smile to someone you love.
